"I loved it. I loved every minute of being involved, and I'm proud to come from here."
TH, Participant and Performer
Over the course of 2023 and into 2024, with generous support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we worked with our ARU partners local participants and school to research the area's fascinating history.
Together, we then created:
A community activity programme, including walking tours, creative workshops and history talks.
Three exhibitions, one still visible on building site hoardings along the Mile Cross Road.
A digital story map (find it here)
The Great Estate - a free, outdoor touring community show with 70 performers, singers and crew (read the script here)
A Mile Cross Through the Decades March for the Lord Mayor's Procession, winning second place.
A lantern procession and performance with Year 6 of Mile Cross Primary School.
A 2 hour audio documentary with Future Radio - (listen here)
A heritage publication - Mile Cross 100: People, Places and Peculiar Things (find a digital version of the book here) Please note: This book s pubished under a Creative Commons License (International 4.0) If you wish to use anything here please follow this link to understand your rights and obligations under this agreement.
